On May 8, the TV show 60 Minutes aired a segment on adolescent mental health and the rising rates of suicide and depression accelerated by the pandemic. It focused on Wisconsin – which has the fifth highest increase of adolescent self-harm and attempted suicide in the country, with rates nearly doubling since before the pandemic. According to Dr. Michelle Pickett at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, they are seeing more kids in the emergency room that are desperate for mental health help. She said that at least once a shift they see a youth who has attempted suicide.
